Objective
The Capex & Lease Manager (CLM) is responsible for all capital and lease activity in WCAN. The primary focus is to maintain and grow the business across all product lines, including major strategic investments to grow the overall business.
Based in Calgary, the successful candidate is expected to effectively allocate capital and to review and submit all Plant, Property, and Equipment (PPE) investments for approval. The CLM will provide leadership to all market areas in the development of business cases and execution of projects. Effective and clear communications to Executives, business managers and operations are crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Capital & Lease Planning:
Direct the planning process for capital spending ($75m per year) and equipment lease planning ($100m per year).
Consolidate, review and submit the yearly capital and lease requests on behalf of WCAN for approval by Group.
Lead portfolio reviews for CEO and CFO.
Defines the local strategy between spending capital on or leasing PPE.
Represent WCAN on any capex and leasing committees or forums required at the NA level.
Strong cash flow management to help ensure that all capex cash targets are achieved at the WCAN level.
Maintain project log complete with all forecasted projects for the calendar year.
Maintain a capex project system in SAP to monitor approvals and completion of all in progress projects.
Compile month end reports for executive review.
WCAN super user for SAP capex modules, responsible for all training and testing of updated before they are put into the production environment.
WCAN champion for corporate CPM processes, ensuring adherence to Lafarge standardsand compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Assist in the development of business cases, including technical input, scheduling, and financial analysis.
Provide guidance to project execution team on work in progress as needed.
Approve all capex files before submission for CEO review.
Maintain lease tracker complete with all leased equipment in WCAN.
Promote a strong fleet management program to ensure high uptime and strong commercial performance of the WCAN equipment fleet.
Accountable for the overall fleet procurement process and works to establish strong relationships with equipment manufacturers.
Develop and maintain relationships with lenders to create a competitive financing environment.
Approve all sales agreements and leases prior to CEO signature.
Control owner for the proper and timely capitalization of assets.
Ensure all assets being capitalized are compliant with accounting standards.
Completes monthly and yearly reviews to ensure that assets are created, capitalized and depreciated against business income statements.
Assist with third party audits on capital and leasing as necessary.
A spend of approximately $175m per year ($75m capex and $100m lease).
1 direct report (WCAN Capex and Lease Coordinator).
Develop and deliver formal training and mentorship for Capex Managers across WCAN.
Reports to the WCAN CEO and works closely with the WCAN CFO on cashflow management.
Assists VPs and Directors with specific initiatives as needed.
Mentor and coach other capex team members in WCAN.
Review business cases and equipment needs with General Managers and Operations Managers.
Work to achieve best value with Procurement Managers.
Consistent interaction with Finance and Performance teams.
Bachelor degree in Engineering or applicable Technologist designation.
5 years of project management experience in heavy industry is preferred; experience within cement, mining, or other processing industry is an asset.
Experience creating and reviewing investment business cases is required.
Good leadership ability and interpersonal skills.
Proven good communication skills (written & oral).
Ability to multi-task while maintaining excellent organizational skills.
Ability to perform in a self-directed work environment.
