Overview

The Yard Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Yard. This individual is responsible for coordinating activities to maintain a clean and organized plant environment that adheres to safety, environmental, quality, production, and cost standards.

The Yard Supervisor will oversee the performance of Yard employees, ensuring adherence to established work standards and contributing to the achievement of the plant’s strategic objectives. The Yard Supervisor will be pivotal in shaping and sustaining a positive work culture.

Structure

Reports directly to the Area Manager. This position works with all departments such as Production, Maintenance, and Quarry.

Responsibilities



Effectively supervise 25 yard employees
Organizes and supervises (LCC) Contractors as required.
Schedule, plan, direct and assign work to the yard group.
Improve and maintain housekeeping within Plant premises in order to achieve a clean, safe and environmentally compliant plant.
Liaise with other areas within the Plant toward successful scheduling and execution of assigned work.
Employ continuous improvement practices aimed at making the Plant a safer, cleaner, more efficient work place.
Support plant Key Performance Indicators
Completes associated administration work, ie, SAP, timecards, requisitions, receiving.
Train and onboard students, temporary employees, and new employees.
Keeps employees up to date on training and provides specific training to employees.
May be required to relieve other Supervisory positions in Production or the Quarry.


Safety Leadership



Being a safety leader, proactively act in eliminating/controlling risk, and lead and inspire the crew by example.
Ensure communication of safety requirements as it relates to other plant departments.


Operational



Ensure proper use of all mobile equipment and reporting of all incidents and defects.
Participate in development and implementation of safety rules and procedures.
Carry out monthly safety meetings and seek to resolve all safety actions raised by the crew.
Seek for continuous improvements in equipment reliability and performance.
Coordinate and conduct yearly refresher training (safety training, mobile equipment, etc.)
Carry out daily safety workplace inspections, hazard and field level risk assessments.
Resolve chronic spillages.


Personnel



Develop a positive team environment by promoting the ACE values.
Organizes yard manpower to best suit the department’s requirements. 
Administration and application of the Collective Agreement.
Remove any roadblocks to ensure yard employees are working efficiently and effectively.
Defines objectives for the yard employees and carries out the necessary performance reviews. 
Promote quality of work and motivates personnel.


Qualification Profile



Two years post-secondary education or equivalent industrial and supervisory experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy industry, two of which are at a supervisory level.
Have solid knowledge of plant processes.
Believe in continuous improvement and will act accordingly.
Have the ability to promote and drive change effectively.
Have excellent communication skills.
Have the ability to effectively communicate across departments and at all levels in the organization.
Be a team player, positive and with a can-do attitude.
Be able to perform with minimal supervision.
Enjoy analyzing situations and making decisions accordingly.
Have a friendly and constructive customer service attitude.
Have the ability to motivate, energize and inspire teams.
Have working knowledge of computer based applications (MS Office, SAP, Kronos, etc.).
Have good knowledge of yard processes.
Have good conflict resolution, coaching and training skills
