Must-Have Skills:

  • 5+ years with SDN, SD-WAN

Role Description:

The Senior Application Architect will work with modern network technology, broadband connectivity, network infrastructure, internet technologies, and network security. Responsibilities include designing and developing modern networks and network security solutions for Ontario K-12 school boards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on school board network data
  • Provide advice, training, and solution recommendations for complex network performance issues
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and configuration of network data monitoring and management systems
  • Expertise in SDN technology, SD-WAN, and emerging SD-Edge and SASE solutions
  • Develop strategic roadmaps based on new network architecture solutions and technology trends
  • Create and update detailed system documentation and technical specifications
  • Assess new network and security solutions, technology trends, and industry analysis
  • Perform hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, and training at client sites
  • Travel within Ontario as needed for on-site support and training
Experience and Skill Set Requirements:

  • Network Technology (45%):

    • 5+ years with network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, VPN, VLAN, Wi-Fi)
    • Experience with Ontario K-12 school boards' networks preferred
    • SDN, SD-WAN experience with Fortinet, Meraki, Palo Alto
    • Data and performance monitoring with SolarWinds, FortiManager, Panorama
    • Network data traffic monitoring tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark
    • Data logging mechanisms including Syslog, IPFix, NetFlow
    • Network protocols like MPLS, VPLS, VLAN Trunking Protocol
    • Data analysis and visualization tools like Tableau, AWS QuickSight, Power BI
  • Network Security (30%):

    • Advanced SD network security, preferably for Ontario K-12 school boards
    • Network security technologies including next-generation firewalls, DDoS protection, IPS, network access control, endpoint protection
    • Authentication solutions (password-based, MFA, certificate-based, biometric)
    • Experience with SASE platforms and solutions
    • Knowledge of IoT security issues and data capturing mechanisms
  • Coordination Skills (15%):

    • Strong communication skills for presenting to management and stakeholders
    • Experience preparing written materials and coordinating technical work with IT teams
  • Public Sector Experience (5%):

    • Knowledge of Government of Ontario standards and relevant policies
    • Experience working with Ontario K-12 school boards on LAN/WAN networks and network security
    • Experience providing technical training courses to the Ontario Public Service or Broader Public Service
  • Industry Certifications / Relevant Degrees (5%):

    • Postgraduate degree in computer science or engineering preferred
    • Relevant vendor certifications (e.g., AWS, Certified Ethical Hacker, CompTIA, SASE)
Notes:

  • The contract may be extended if needed, with no change to the ceiling amount
  • Work requires 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week
  • Travel to school board locations across Ontario is required, with expenses reimbursed according to the Ontario Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive
