Overview

Reporting to the Operations Manager for the Southern Alberta Aggregate Division, the Operations HSE Analyst would provide support for both actively monitoring and the continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs for the Southern Alberta Aggregates Team. This is a developmental role and an opportunity to gain widespread expertise within the Aggregates business with the ultimate goal of building a long-term career with Lafarge.

Examples of responsibilities may include:



To serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors
Respond to incidents (Drug and Alcohol Post incident testing; dealing with injured workers – Medi-Centres/hospitals; police reports) and converse with Foreman/Superintendents/Crew to formulate and incident report; Assist with the creation and follow through of corrective actions following incidents
Visually inspect site to make sure proper procedures are being followed and conditions are safe; ensure that crews are wearing appropriate PPE; Provide PPE where necessary
Assist project coordinators with sub-contractor site orientations where needed
Assist with completion of hazard assessments/site inspections when/where needed; site inspection examples include structural and slope inspections
Assist area management in planning, coordinating and supervising that production activities meet or exceed safety and environmental expectations
Participate in routine meetings outlining improvement opportunities
Coordinating with sales, project managers, quality control personnel, and plant production on project details, scheduling, and problem resolution 


Office



Facilitate and contribute to the creation and update process for Safe Job Procedures
Keep organized records of training and completed safety documentation (FLRA’s, hazard assessments etc.); ensure those with expired training received new training
Coordinate/schedule orientations and other types of training at the beginning of the season (load securement, first aid, RSTS etc.)


Relationships With Others Jobs



Works closely with Operations Manager, Land Manager, Area Managers, Equipment Manager, Mining Engineer and Foremen
Liaisons with Management, Environment, Safety, Finance and other departments.


Education

Qualifications: 



Recent graduate of an Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Technology, Business, or related degree.
Interest in a long-term career in health & safety, environment, business, engineering, and construction with a goal to pursue P. Eng., CET, or NCSO designation.


 

Experience & Skill Set



Strong computer technical aptitude to learn new systems and programs
Ability to make rational decisions and resolve conflict
A team leader with excellent negotiation, communication and people skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-starter / Problem solver / Self-disciplined 
Good presentation and interpersonal skills
Confidence to work independently, safely, and travel to remote gravel pits
On-site construction experience would be considered an asset
