Task description and requirements

We are currently working with an energy client, who are looking for a Project Manager (m/w/d) for the implementation of the new EU Methane regulation.

Start: ASAP / June
End: 30/09/2024
Volume: Part-time 20hrs / week
Location: Fully remote - client is in Germany

Project description: A new EU regulation on the measurement and reduction of methane emission in the energy sector is expected to enter into force during June 2024. This regulation lays down rules for the accurate measurement, quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification of methane emissions in the energy sector in the Union, as well as the reduction of those emissions - being applicable for upstream and midstream operations as well as the import to the EU of crude oil, natural gas, and coal. The regulation is highly complex and will cause significant effort and costs required to ensure compliance. Some actions have to be considered directly with the regulation entering into force, while many others have to be implemented during the next year(s).

The project's aim is to prepare the client to achieve compliance with the regulation during the time of the implementation. First steps would be the set-up of the project including preparing kick-off sessions, defining required resources and budget.

Task description - to be carried out independently:
- Develop the project set-up (project plan that contains timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and budget) based on information coming from relevant internal stakeholders. Present results to the client for a sign-off on the project plan.
- Stay informed of the latest developments and requirements related to the EU Methane Regulation; in addition to that, interpret regulatory requirements and provide insights on these topics professionally to internal stakeholders
- Identify departments that are or might be responsible for the operational and commercial activities of the organization affected by the EU Methane Regulation based on own professional expertise. After identification, provide professional consultancy and suggestions regarding these identified departments to the project team so that the areas which are affected can be identified and the client can make the final decision on how to coordinate efforts on this matter.
- Steer the project team in the preparation of a complete list of requirements, gaps and implications for the client's business, while identifying all relevant businesses and geographical areas
- Provide professional technical consultancy in the implementation of the regulation and derive potential impact for the client's strategy to the relevant project team members.
- Steer the project team in the preparation for the implementation of actions, processes, reporting and documentation to check if, based on identified gaps, the reached and planned compliance objectives in the project correspond with the EU Methane Regulation. Monitor compliance and project progress on a weekly basis and present a weekly report on the status of these to the other members of the project group.

Must-Have Skills:
- English;
- Proven experience in project management (minimum 5 years), preferably in a sustainability or regulatory compliance role.

Nice-to-Have:
- German;
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, especially in relation to methane emissions and greenhouse gas management;
- Certification in project management (e.g. PMP) and/or sustainability (e.g. CSR-P) is an advantage.

If interested, please apply with latest CV showcasing the needed skills.
