Overview

Work with the Manitoba & Saskatchewan (Market Area) Management team to ensure implementation and ongoing improvement of health and safety processes and systems. Ensure the Market Area maintains consistency with Lafarge policies, standards, and improvement plan priorities as well as compliance with relevant regulations. Serve as a catalyst to promote and maintain a positive safety culture within the Market Area and to provide an expert resource within the Product Line. Provide health & safety direction and leadership to direct reports as well as Market Area and Product Line management.

This position is a 21-month maternity leave contract.

Responsibilities

Market Area & Product Line Accountability:



Provide direct H&S coaching to the site Safety Committees, Management and Employees within the Market Area.
Implement effective loss control measures to reduce accidents and injuries.
Advise and assist Market Area management in the development, implementation, managing and auditing Health and Safety Management Systems.
Develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships with market area and product line management, employees and local regulatory agencies.
Serve as an expert resource for both the Market Area and Product Line management for health and safety information regarding safety and health processes and regulations.
Work with the Head of Health and Safety to identify system, program and training needs within the Market Area and Product Line.
Assist sites to identify risks and controlling hazards with market area and product line.
Provide expertise for investigations of Health & Safety concerns and incidents, develop corrective actions and follow-up mechanisms, and ensure communication of relevant information to management and all employees.
Ensure implementation and management of health and safety training and documentation in Market Area and Product Line.
Conduct HSMS (Standards and Advisory) gap analysis inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment.
Participate in joint OH&S and/or Safe Work Groups as required.
Assist site management and safety committees in the completion of incident investigation reports, root cause analysis of incidents and effective corrective actions.
Assists in worker’s compensation case management and return to work programs with market area operational managers.
Ensure Lafarge incident reporting standard is followed and best practices are shared with regional and product line personnel.
Coordinate health and industrial hygiene monitoring as needed.
Ensure Health & Safety KPI reporting in accordance with Regional and Group standards.
Support to management at Product Line VP and below in health and safety related issues.
Champion one of the group standards and advisories towards developing specialists.
Drive behaviors which support building “world class” health & safety culture.

Relationships With Other Jobs



Align with Market Area and Product Line Management and plant/site employees on implementation of Health and Safety Management Systems, Processes and Training.
Coordinate with the Head of Health & Safety in determining Country priorities and business unit strategies.
Be included in new processes, equipment and building development.

Qualifications

Education:
Post-secondary certification (degree, diploma, certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety. University degree.

Experience



10 years working experience as a health & safety professional. Minimum 3 years as Manager and 3 years in construction related industry.
Nationally recognized Safety and Health certifications preferred: CRSP, CSP, and CSO.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Expert knowledge of relevant Provincial regulations.
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
