Overview
The Health and Safety Summer Student will help to support the plant safety team with the implementation of health and safety management systems and processes. The student will work within a fast paced and dynamic team of H&S experts. This position is a mix of office and field duties in an industrial environment. This is a 12-16 week term contract assignment.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate a commitment to a safe work environment. Understand the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts in a visible manner.
Assist the H&S team with site inspections, audits and investigations.
Develop presentations and training materials.
Follow up with stakeholders on corrective action completion.
Manage records and documentation.
Handle confidential and sensitive information.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Mature attitude and ability to work effectively independent of supervision.
Strong organizational skills, with ability to attend to detail, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in utilizing computer and web-based systems.
Proficiency in working in Google Suite.
Strong willingness to learn.
Able to work effectively with different people in different environments.
Able to organize and manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines.
Completion of 1st or 2nd year of applicable post-secondary education, formal training in specialized areas of safety considered an asset.
Returning to Health & Safety or Engineering studies in the fall.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
