Task description and requirements

With a broad range of staff experience and state-of-the-art instrumentation, we provide cross-analytical solutions for the Environmental, Energy, Mining, Transportation, Industrial, Agri-food and Life Sciences sectors.

Summary:

AGAT Laboratories is currently hiring for a Laboratory Technician C that has some introductory laboratory experience. We welcome students who are currently enrolled in a Geology or equivalent program to apply. In this position, the successful candidate will be able to work independently on laboratory activities, as well as collaborate with other team members. This position will be working in our Mining and Geology Labs in our Calgary location.

Duties:

  • Perform basic laboratory procedures including sample weighing, preparation of samples, reagents and calibration solutions.
  • Provide general lab support including washing glassware, cleaning work stations and waste disposal.
  • Calibrate, operate, maintain and troubleshoot intermediate instruments.
  • Compile, verify and validate accurate data records.
  • Meet quality assurance and turn around specifications.
  • Follow all Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Report results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education with a Technical Diploma or Degree required (or are currently enrolled in a Geology program).
  • 0-2 years previous laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory chemicals and associated safe work practices.
  • An understanding of the principles of chemistry and preferably geology.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency using Excel and reporting results.
  • Mature work ethic, with the ability to work in a positive manner in a fast paced environment.
  • Problem solving, communication, organization, and time management.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds on a consistent basis and perform work in a hot environment.
