Objectives

The Materials Coordinator is responsible for the procurement and receiving of vital production materials/inputs necessary to produce high-quality finished products to meet the needs of Lafarge customers. Accurate forecasting and timely sourcing of consistent, high quality materials is required to ensure that production schedules are met and costs are controlled.

Through data analysis and tracking, Materials Coordinators identify external risks to key performance indicators and incorporate strategies that will allow the Precast business to respond with agility and flexibility to changes in market conditions affecting the availability of materials, transportation, timelines, and pricing.

Lean inventory management requires leveraging strong relationships with external vendors, Delivering on our commitments requires collaboration with the precast projects and operations teams to identify solutions to effectively manage changing customer needs impacting materials planning and the availability of goods.

Structure

Reporting directly to the Precast Materials Supervisor, the Materials Coordinator works closely with the Sales & Project Management team to identify materials needs for upcoming and ongoing projects. They will work closely with the Operations Manager and Superintendent to ensure the inventory of all raw materials is sufficient to meet production needs.

Responsibilities

Sourcing & Purchasing:

Project Scope Review & Forecasting



Participate in job scope reviews with the Operations Manager and Sales and Projects Manager to determine initial materials needs and testing requirements including specifications for strand, rebar, and other required production materials
Source all production materials and obtain quotes in accordance with internal policies and procedures – BCC, Ariba, Avetta
Assist the Project Managers, Estimators and the Maintenance team with researching pricing alternatives for difficult to procure items

Cost Management



Work directly with the Sales team and Project Managers in the estimation phase for new projects and identify cost saving opportunities based on market intelligence
Identify solutions to address changing materials market conditions resulting in longer lead times, frequent pricing changes and inconsistent materials quality
Track and analyze data to identify inefficiencies that contribute to increased costs and develop solutions and source opportunities where a less expensive alternative may be possible
Complete project completion cost analysis, identify cost savings and lost opportunities and make recommendations for future projects

Vendor Relationships



Build strong relationships with key suppliers able to provide high quality goods that meet specifications at a reasonable price
Maintain strong vendor database – leverage cost savings, capitalize on discounts and strengthen negotiating position in the procurement of materials, services, transport and maintenance

Receiving/Inventory Management



Work with the Receiver and Job Kitter and ensure that work processes related to incoming freight are performed in a safe, yet timely and efficient manner at all times
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for the Receiving and Job Kitter position
Track and monitor regular inventory counts performed by Receiver and trouble shoot areas of concern
Monitor for any fluctuations in the quality of products to ensure precast finished products meet customer specifications, and continuity of the material quality is maintained

Production KPI’s



Develops and implements processes, strategies and tools to plan and track budgets, forecasts, maintenance, production and shipping performance to achieve targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
Tracks cost savings & identifies success stories to share with Procurement
Gathers relevant KPI’s for Production Meetings, including inventory levels, production schedules, project plan status and changes and identifies and risk of concerns with materials levels and availability

Financial



Assist in the month-end accrual process, to ensure all outstanding liabilities are accounted for as per company accounting standards
Analyze job cost for each project comparing initial project estimates against final invoices to determine the actual job cost for each project. Analyze and record cost savings for all projects.

INCUMBENT QUALIFICATION PROFILE



Proficiency with MS Office/Google Workspace
Specific knowledge working with SAP would be an asset.
Proficient with inventory reporting systems
Excellent organizational and planning skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff
Excellent time management and task prioritization skill
Self-starter, willing to do work outside job description as required
Previous construction material/manufacturing experience an asset

Education & Experience



Post-secondary Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Supply Chain Management or related industry an asset
2-4 years experience in a similar role supporting construction or manufacturing
